History

We have a distinguished history.  We began in a log cabin in 1864, just a few faithful families.  The church's Declaration of Faith and Covenant was adopted in 1894 and Germantown Baptist Church was officially a church.

The old cabin was covered with white stuco, and a portico added in the 1930s. Electric lights were added in 1939.  Baptisms were held at Seneca Creek. There were times there were as many folks outside as were in.  We were bursting at the seams.

AND NOW WE ARE GROWING AGAIN!

This time the growth is not in size and building-- this time it is changing with the times and needs of our members, our community and our world.

We Are Truly a "Church in Transition"!

We recognize that many today have never entered a church building; have never believed in God; have never even felt the need for God - BUT - TODAY... Today, our world seems to be spinning out of control.  "Family Values" are needed.  Our families are not learning there is "Absolute Truth".  They are not learning to love and respect each other.  They feel they are expendable and there is no hope for tomorrow.  Today, more than ever, there is a genuine search for the "Meaning of Life".

If you ever went to church when you were young - heard the old hymns and gospel songs, you will hear them at "GBC".  You will also hear the new contemporary praise hymns.  Best of all, you will hear the timeless "Good News"  --

GOD LOVES YOU,
HE REALLY DOES!
Come  hear and see Love and Caring in action, and God's Meaning for our Lives.  Life CAN be better.
We welcome you to come visit us and learn how!
